RALLY AGAINST WAR ON IRAN

Saturday, December 15, Noon
Meet at the corner of Sussex and York

Join us for a short rally and walk through the market to hand out leaflets to demand:

HARPER SPEAK OUT: NO TO U.S. WAR ON IRAN!
BREAK THE SILENCE!  NO MORE DISASTROUS WARS!

Experts are convinced that the Bush Government is working hard to find a pretext for war.

'Rhetoric flowing out of the White House indicates the Bush administration is planning a military attack on Iran. Officials in Saudi Arabia, a close Bush ally, think the handwriting is on the wall. "George Bush's tone makes us think he has decided what he is going to do," according to Rihab Massoud, Prince Bandar ben Sultan's right-hand man. Saudi Social Affairs Minister Abdel Mohsen Hakas told /Le Figaro/, "We are getting closer and closer to a confrontation." Such a move would violate international law as did the invasion of Iraq.  Iran has not threatened to attack anyone, and in fact, has not attacked another country in 3000 years.  And an attack by the U.S. would further destabilize the area.

Yet the Harper government has not taken a stand against war with Iran.  As noted by Murry Dobbin, Harper's "early support for the Iraq invasion, his uncritical support for Israel, his acceptance of all the premises of the misnamed war on terror, his pandering to the Christian right on these issues, and his desire to extend the U.S.-inspired Afghan mission, all suggest that he will support whatever the U.S. and Israel do regarding Iran. His silence on the issue just reinforces that fear."  http://thetyee.ca/Views/2007/10/16/TargetIran/

We need to speak up and tell Harper to speak out against a war that would be another catastrophe.  Join us, bring your signs and banners, help leaflet in the market.  We will finish in time for those who wish to join the December 15 Canpalnet-Ottawa/Not in our Name boycott of Chapters at 1 pm.  (See http://opirg-carleton.org/content/?q=node/242)
