OF CANADIANS - PETERBOROUGH and KAWARTHAS
SPP SECRECY REMAINS Eight chapter members are heading to Ottawa on Wednesday, October 24 to protest and demand accountability from the Federal Government regarding the process and consequences of the current Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) negotiations. The chapter's action plan will be presented in person, on scroll, to the Prime Minister's Office at 1 pm. Beforehand, there will be a street theatre presentation in the Byward Market, near the National Arts Centre and on Parliament Hill. The scroll will outline the evidence of a "clear dismissal of the Canadian democratic process" - for example: (a) All SPP negotiations and planning are being held in secret, away from any scrutiny from all legislative and political bodies, civil society organizations and the media. (b) Canada is being represented by the North American Competitiveness Council, composed of ten members, all senior executive officials from large corporations. (c) The initiative is White-House led. ( www.spp.gov ) (d) Canada's water and energy security are on the table, despite denials. The chapter will present demands to meet with the Prime Minister or Foreign Affairs Minister, modify the NACC representation to be democratic and bring any significant draft report to Parliament for evaluation and amendment. The chapter has invited the leaders of each federal party, the local federal candidates and other pertinent organizations to attend our peaceful demonstration and provide input. contact info: rbrady1@cogeco.ca |
